supposed to come down on you peretti good. >> yeah, they had to make a contingency plan because of this weather that's coming in. we have been checking the doppler and it's coming. it's not too far away. so we're ready. we're prepared. we're under an awning. so hey we're cover, we're on bourbon street. but yeah, all of the media there, they are making other plans today. yesterday though it was a pretty big event and it's a big event in any super bowl and that is media day. and, of course, the harbaugh brothers are in town. they got a lot of attention and scrutiny. the new orleans times counted smiles during the media session. the 49ers' jim harbaugh smiled 18 times. they actually counted this. his brother john from baltimore 47. so hey, what's up, jim? each brother, though, they praised the other. >> said it many times that i think i'm half the coach that he is. >> i'm proud of what he's done.

heavy rain for a while. around the bay area it's quiet outside mostly clear skies. 50s in pacifica. high pressure dominating our weather. it will be warmer outside as much as 4 to 7 degrees warmer than yesterday's highs so plan on numbers up into the 60s. how long will it stay that way? what about that rain? we'll talk about that coming up. gianna? >> let's go live right now to the golden gate bridge toll plaza where traffic is cruising right along no delays to report right now as you work your way out of marin county into san francisco. they did do the lane changes just a little while ago and you can see, traffic is free- flowing as you work your way in both directions through there. caltrans just wrapped up some construction as you work your way westbound 80 between central and powell. all lanes open traffic clear towards the bay bridge toll plaza. still a couple of hot spots in the south bay. we have southbound 280 connector to northbound 85. that will be closed until 6:00. also eastbound 237 that's

closed at least to southbound 880 -- that will be there until 6:00. let's go back to michelle griego in new orleans. >> it's note all about football and partying in new orleans. nope. a couple of santa clara police officers are actually making their way into town to learn a little something from the department here. and cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in our newsroom with more on that. good morning. >> reporter: actually, michelle, i have moved over to santa clara. it's going to be the new home to the 49ers and once this stadium opens its doors to fans, crowd control will be a new issue for santa clara pd to tackle. so the department is keeping its eye on the future not just with the 9ers move but bringing a super bowl here in 2016. but before even that can happen, the city needs to prove that it can handle a massive event like that. and santa clara neighbors agree this is a good move for their police department. >> depending on the culture or,

you know, the rivalry it can get rowdy. checking the culture of what's going on inside the crowd, definitely keep fans and families safe and create a culture families want to come out to. >> reporter: two officers will be paid to go to the super bowl training session. a former police chief will go and paying his own way. tree training comes at a perfect time -- the training comes at a perfect time. mardi gras is also going on in conjunction with the super bowl so the police department there is handling twice the crowd and from what we have been hearing they have been doing a good job. cate caugiran, cbs 5. michelle, i was in new orleans last april. and you don't have to go very far to see some of the remnants and some of the buildings that are still down because of hurricane katrina and i know you took a little tour as well, didn't you? >> yeah. we did. we took a tour around new orleans. a lot of people go to the french quarter. they will go to jackson square,

they will go to the popular tourist destinations. but we took a little stroll through uptown and when i say uptown, i mean up the river. and a lot of people there, they take pride in their community. >> when the tourism department does commercials, they normally show like the downtown french quarter area. but they tend to leave out some of the more important neighborhoods that surround the city. my name is terrence higgins. born and raised here in new orleans. and right now, we're uptown. mixed incomes, mixed ethnicities. you can walk two blocks that way and you'll be like in a higher scale neighborhood and two blocks that way will be just a little bit of the ghetto. the demographics is wide. this area didn't flood during katrina. this is high ground. it's almost like the safest

place in new orleans. people are souping it up as fast as they can so if you can find some old house for a cheap price it behooves you to snatch it and renovate it and property value is going to skyrocket. so it's a vital part of the city, man. people don't really get to see it, and a lot of history, too. so this is another part of new orleans. >> reporter: it certainly has a lot of history. we were talking to him yesterday and he actually said since hurricane sandy, the value of his home has gone up threefold which is good. it means that this city and uptown is rebuilding. the mission district today, its part of mayor lee's effort to keep drinking from becoming a problem on super bowl sunday. police chief greg suhr and the fire chief will join the mayor this afternoon visiting

merchants in the mission to talk about cracking down on alcohol. 5:09. san francisco police are taking a new look at a cold case involving a child who disappeared 29 years ago. the renewed search sent officers to the haight-ashbury neighborhood. they are searching around a house on masonic avenue near page street there and cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the scene with what neighbors remember about the time when kevin collins went missing many years ago. ann. >> reporter: anyone who is around the bay area or california remembers the kevin collins case and now it is all centered on the duplex here behind me. they found some bones there. now, the preliminary analysis shows that they were animal bones. but police say that further analysis of the bones is necessary. they're not saying a whole lot else this morning. kevin collins last seen about a block from here on the way home from basketball practice back in '84 on oak street. witnesses say he was pushed into a car with two teenagers

wearing mohawks. police aren't saying why they have renewed their search for kevin. but we know cadaver dogs did indicate that there were bones beneath the concrete floor of a garage in this duplex here on masonic and police said a man who lived in the house at the time did match the description of a man seen talking to ken. that person has sense died. we did speak with a neighbor though who knew the two men who lived here in '84. >> i don't know if they did. i don't know. but i'm just saying that they were investigated by the police since kevin was taken. they had the dog, a black dog, and they were taken to the -- to be questioned and they were let go. >> reporter: yes. never charged in this case. police also say the people who live in the house now are not suspects. kevin's mother lives in concord. when it companies it these potential false leads, new developments, she says that she

toll plaza. clear into san francisco across the upper deck. no delays on the lower deck out of san francisco. san mateo bridge you can see traffic flowing in both directions. most of our volume is on the westbound side headed into foster city but overall, it's been a nice ride. 14 minutes to go between 880 and 101. jumping over to our maps right now traffic also not doing too bad through antioch. typically we see delays around this time. westbound 4 in the green, some slight delays on the eastbound side but no construction or incidents to report and speaking of roadwork, we have a couple of snags out there southbound 280 connector it 85. that's still blocked until 6:00. also, if you work your way in and around that area you will see slight delays on the southbound side of 280 an eastbound 237 connector to 880, that is still closed. that will be shut down at least until about 6:00 this morning. you can see the westbound connector traffic is cruising along with no problems right now. we'll have a look at mass

transit coming up. right now, let's check the forecast with lawrence. >> weather looking good outside. we'll see plenty of sunshine around the bay area in some of the warmest temperatures of the week. out there right now, cool in spots. still 30s and low 40s in the valleys. clear skies to the coast mild at the beaches right now. some of those numbers actually in the 50s. this afternoon, though, we are going to see 50s coastside but maybe some mid-60s in the warmest spots inland so milder weather outside and it's going to stick around over the next few days as this ridge of high pressure really slides across the west coast and kind of camps out for the remainder at least of the week and it looks like then after that maybe some changes then maybe next week we start to talk about the possibility of some rain. traveling out of sfo not a big problem. clear skies, 57 degrees. if you are headed around the country not bad in houston, 66 degrees. into denver, 50 degrees partly cloudy skies. chicago could see some snow there 39. some showers in new york at 55 degrees.

open in an hour. we have seen people trickling down. the dumpster trucks are around picking up all the trash and you can see how clean it looks out here but, of course, this is very different from the few nights before. of course, a lot of people in town for the super bowl but also the mardi gras celebrations and bourbon street is usually littered with trash and, of course, all those beads. the big party is not on bourbon street of course. it's going to be at the superdome in just a couple of days. this is the tenth super bowl for new orleans. it's the 7th being held at the superdome. the first three super bowls here were held at tulane stadium. and check this out. $750million has been spent on upgrades to the dome since hurricane katrina. [ signal breakup ] outside the superdome and 6,000 volunteers needed to make the

super bowl a success. so far, things are running pretty smoothly, frank. i have to say, this city knows how to hold a party. >> it's the party capital of the world and some say the super bowl should be there every year. and tuesday, yesterday, is the annual media day, which is always crazy, wacky and a lot of fun, too. >> yeah, frank. i know you've experienced a lot of media days covering a few super bowls in your time. it's a lot of fun, especially for fans. you know, they paid $25 yesterday to mingle at the superdome in new orleans. thousands of reporters of course were on hand to hear from the coaches and the players. 35-year-old san francisco receiver randy moss, he says he wants to play for another year. he's not ready to retire. he says he wants championships at every other level and is ready for one in the nfl. >> i don't really live on numbers. i really live on impact and what you're able to do out on that field. so i really do think that i'm

caltrain or ace. everything is on time this morning. michelle is standing by in new orleans. >> all right. thanks so much. you know, the 49, moved to the santa clara stadium is a year away but it's not too soon for santa clara police to be prepared for all of the masses heading out to that stadium on game day. we have cbs 5's cate caugiran who is in santa clara with more on that. good morning, cate. >> reporter: good morning to you in new orleans, michelle. now, this is actually a great time for santa clara's police department to learn from new orleans. normally they deal with mardi gras every year but combine that with the super bowl crowd and you have one big group. so santa clara's police department is sending two officers, a sergeant and lieutenant, a former police chief going as well paying his own way. and the hope is that these officers can take a page from the big easy's police force on crowd control. this is an issue not familiar within santa clara's borders

but once the 49ers become the city's newest neighbor with that will come tens of thousands of fans and this department wants to be ready. >> new orleans has done this many times. and those guys are sharp. and that's why we're sending people there, to learn from them. >> in addition to preparing for the 9ers move to the city, city leaders are also hoping santa clara can be the 2016 super bowl host. but before that can even happen, the city does have to prove they can handle massive crowds. live in santa clara, cate caugiran, cbs 5. of course, this sunday and all this week new orleans is the place to be on the planet. if you want to rub elbows with the ventura and famous, i guess you bumped in george lucas, didn't you? >> of all people, we bumped into george lucas along the streets. and it's fitting because new orleans is becoming a business

for movies. the industry is really booming here. in fact, it's booming so much, it's being called hollywood south. with hit shows like hbo's tree may and oscar nominated django unchained, new orleans is becoming known as hollywood's south. >> something to be proud of. >> reporter: movie projects here more than tripled from ten years ago thanks to a tax incentive for movie mangers. >> people coming in to make movies here are basically just tourists. >> reporter: that from a man who knows something about making movies. we ran into george lucas walking the streets of the french quarter. he says hollywood projects do bring in money but it doesn't last. >> all it does is help the merchants which is a good thing. make a lot of money. but if you want to get local talent acting, camera, directors, writers, bringing people in from hollywood doesn't help you at all. >> reporter: to do that, the city is trying to localize as

much as it can with stage and post production facilities. >> when a movie team comes, everything iser who, costumes, props, crew, camera houses here. >> all this armor came from the movie "alexander." >> reporter: wingate jones opened his costume shop 18 years ago and is booked for 90% of projects filled here. >> my hope is that it extends well beyond that and that the term "hollywood south" becomes more of a reality. >> reporter: and business is booming here. before that tax credit ten years ago, they had about 16 projects a year, films here in new orleans. now just last year they had 61. so you can tell they are seeing a lot of growth, frank. >> and how about george lucas? was he there kind of scouting out a possible movie thing or you had mentioned earlier he is

it sounds like a good time going on there. good morning, frank and to everyone. well, stocks in asia rallied on promising growth data from china. tokyo's nikkei gained more than 2% hitting a 33 month high while hong kong's hang seng added nearly 1%. housing prices posted their biggest jump in six years and that pushed the dow near record territory. it closed up 72 points tuesday to close at 13, 954. that's only 210 points away from its all-time high set in october of 2007. the nasdaq fell slightly. boeing may have known about the problems with the batteries on their dreamliners. japan's all nippon airways said it replaced 10 lithium ion batteries months before one of their jets made an emergency landing and told boeing about it but not federal investigators. the ntsb says it is now conducting an investigation of the battery. boeing says it is cooperating and wants nothing more than to get this problem resolved as

faulty airbags and some problems with the windshield wipers. 752,000 corollas and matrix cars manufactured between december of 2001 and may of 2004 are part of the recall for airbags that can improperly i am flate. 270,000 lexus sedans from 2006 to 2012 are recalled to check for loose nut on the front of the wiper so if you have a toyota, might want to take note. okay. weather-wise, new orleans is about to get pounded. >> they are going to get ripped on in the next hour. >> i was looking at your doppler. it is orange across the board. >> michelle is going to be running for cover. here in the bay area, what a gorgeous day we have coming our way. a lot of sunshine, and really we are in the sweet spot right now for our weather this week as we'll see temperatures heading well above average. outside now not too bad. some 30s and 40s in the valleys but even low 50s at the coast and clear to the beaches. this afternoon, we have sunshine for you. 50s coastal areas but even mid- 60s showing up in some of the

valleys so that big ridge of high pressure that's been sliding in toward the coastline finally moving onshore. it's going to settle in over the next few days so that's keeping any chance of rain well to the north of the bay area at least for now. but then things change a little as we head throughout the weekend. around the state 60s in the central valley, a good day to travel. 50 in lake tahoe. 48 in yosemite. around the bay today, plenty of sunshine. enjoying 63 degrees good day to get outdoors in san jose if you can, 64 in campbell, 58 in half moon bay. east bay temperatures up in the low 60s in most spots, 64 degrees in the napa valley. 64 in santa rosa. 61 san rafael. 59 degrees in san francisco. looking out over the next few days it's going to be as good as it gets this week, cooling down over the weekend and rain next tuesday. let's get a check of the roads with gianna. >> thank you, lawrence. and we are starting to see a bit of a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza mostly in the cash lanes there but overall, traffic is still light as you work your way towards the pay

gates. no metering lights just yet but that will probably change around 6:15 this morning. elsewhere heading off the eastshore freeway this morning, westbound 80 had some early- morning roadwork. they wrapped that up early this morning around 5:00. so traffic is cruising along. westbound 80 no delays to report. about 17 to 20-minute ride as you work your way westbound 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze. everything looking good through the maze, as well. we are seeing some brake lights as you work your way westbound 580 through the altamont pass slow conditions into the livermore valley there so traffic starting to heat up a bit there. also starting to see a few brake lights through antioch. it's a little better into pittsburg but some slow and go conditions there. no delays as you hit the eastshore freeway. marin county has been a nice ride this morning. had some early-morning roadwork. that's been out of there so traffic is free-flowing in both directions and once you hit the golden gate bridge no delays as you work your way in san francisco. that's a look at traffic. back to you. >> you it. 5:49. a hayward couple who says they were scammed out of super bowl

through the historic french quarter by horse. reporter: >> the old french quarter, this is a unique american city. the old french quarter was saved, never was destroyed, never torn down. a lot of cities in america tore down their waterfront areas in the old neighborhoods in the late 18, early 1900s. new orleans saved the french quarter. this is the truly unique an area this big this old this beautiful in america. people living all around us, all above us. vieux carre, the old square, the old city, where the french settled almost 300 years ago. every street in the vieux carre has three names, english, french and spanish. you have to love th -- you have to love the mixture of the people. you have to love the music, food, whatever you want is available. just go out and get it. here you go, gus. you never know who you're going to bump into when you're up here.

relocate because of this storm that's approaching. it's already raining at the superdome. i expect rain here in the french quarter in a few minutes. so far it's windy. we have been at jackson square the last few days. the equipment blew over because of high winds and will probably get rained on there. crews have been working overtime just trying to clean up for the football fans in town but also all of the festivities for mardi gras. of course, the super bowl is in between the mardi gras celebrations. and they do clean up fast. we showed you these shots of bourbon street. it looks fantastic. a different story the night before, frank. >> i bet. >> they do it 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
